my
inspiration

In the summer of 2013, my husband and I went to Cape Breton National Park in
Nova Scotia. We love nature and hiking, so we always visit national parks
during our summer vacations. My birthday occurred during this trip, and my
husband surprised me with a whale watching cruise on a special research boat.
We had to travel very far from our hotel, but it was well worth it. It was a foggy
and rainy day, but we were undeterred, and to our surprise we were the only
two guests in the boat. When we got back to the hotel, I wrote a poem about
my birthday adventure. In 2014, when my granddaughter, Abby, was born, my
husband suggested that I turn the poem into a children’s book. Thus, my
inspiration came to life!
One of my goals in writing this book is to inspire children to become aware of the importance of animal conservation. If children learn at a young age to protect our wildlife and endangered species, all creatures will be able to live as they deserve. I hope children become activists as they grow older and always stand up for the rights of all living creatures. Whales are majestic animals, and they should be loved by all humankind. We need to have more animal sanctuaries and more laws passed to protect our wildlife.
I also hope that teachers use my book as a mentor text for teaching personal narratives. Writing about a special time with a special person is one way for young writers to become great writers. Writers write best about what they know, and special moments stay in our hearts forever.
With love,
